Description
An archaeological evaluation at the site of Bank Park, Warrington.Three trenches were excavated across the site. Trench 1 to the east of Kendrick Street showed deep truncation as a result of cellaring in the late 19th century, and a sequence of 20th century industrial waste deposits. Trenches 2 and 3 within Bank Park did not reveal any pre-industrial archaeological features, but the shallow soil profile and finds of 16th/17th century ceramic material confirmed the undisturbed, rural nature of the soils on the western side of the site, an unusual feature in urban Warrington.
