Description
The watching brief revealed that there are many different make up layers covering the site due to the varying activities that have taken place on it in its historic past.
The study site had previously held an earlier petrol station and the construction of this has destroyed nearly all of the archaeological remains within the site area.
The masonry features that were revealed in trenches 7 and 10 appeared to have been part of 19th century cellared buildings, similar to those seen extending to the east into Chester. Due to their position in relation to the street frontage these could be seen, as theevidence for terraced housing that was present on the site before the first petrol station was situated here.
