Description
Visit to inspect area of flooring at east end of north aisle after removal of flooring.
(1) Church Organ being dismantled at the east end of the N. aisle and the floor was lifted as part of works to extendthe organ. A concrete beam will then be inserted for the new floor
(2) At the time of visit, the floor had been lifted to reveal underlying sand. This proved to contain much disarticulated bone and rubble during excavation of a trench for beam,. Coffins at the base of trench (c. 50cm deep) and sides very loose. Architect decided not suitable for concrete slab abd wooden floor installed instead.
