Description
An archaeological watching brief was undertaken in 2000-2001 at the site of a residential development at Church View, Audlem. The site lies circa 100m to the north-east of St. James Church. The watching brief recorded two buried soil horizons, the upper horizon contained artefacts of eighteenth and nineteenth century date. The lower, which extended a further 0.5m deep, and included medieval and sixteenth century pottery, clay-pipe fragments and iron slag. This horizon lay above a layer of inverted turves. (1)
