Description
An archaeological walkover survey was undertaken in 2001 in advance of a water quality improvement scheme for sources in the Delamere area. The scheme includes the construction of three separate lengths of pipeline; the longest section will run from Five Crosses near Frodsham to a reservoir adjacent to Sunnybank Farm, Manley. Two further stretches, located to the south, will run from Station road, Delamere, to a reservoir south of Sidebottom Farm and from the junction of the A54 and B5125 to a waterworks.
The survey follows on from a desk-based assessment (ECH3863/R2377/SCH4257). In total, 32 flints were recovered, of these, nine were possibly the remains of flint working in the area, showing signs of working or burning, whilst the remainding lithics were unworked. The group is thought to be Mesolithic in date. (1)
