Description
An archaeological watching brief was undertaken in 2001 at Danes Moss Landfill site, Macclesfield; two site visits were undertaken. The site lies off the A536, south of Macclesfield and to the west of Lyme Green. The lagoon under construction is situated at the south-eastern extent of the landfill site and to the north-west of Moss Head Farm. Sections were examined as the work progressed and the ground surrounding the lagoon was examined for the presence of archaeological artefacts. Samples of peat were taken from one of the sections and the samples and a small group of surface finds examined. Sections of ancient peat were observed that are incomplete sequences. It was noted that some cloeopteran (beetle) remains are present in the deposits. (1)
