Description
An archaeological watching brief was undertaken in 1999 at Vale Royal Abbey Golf Club, partly within the Scheduled Ancient Monument of Vale Royal Abbey, in relation to landscaping works for the construction of a putting green. Work included a superficial topsoil strip over an area of circa 200m square, adjacent to the north-west corner of the Great House.
The topsoil strip extended to a depth of 0.08m and was made through modern deposits, which overlay a hard-standing deposit of a previous car park; the hard-standing was not excavated, so no archaeological deposits recorded. (1)
