Site Event/Activity record ECH3763 - Recycling BrownField Land in the Mersey Forest Phase 1: Appendix 2 Archaeological Desk-Based Assessment

An archaeological desk-based assessment was produced in 1998 for five brownfield sites at Mab Lane and Sugar Brook in the Mersey Forest, Cromdale Grove and Merton Bank South in Merseyside, and Stanlow in Cheshire. The purpose of the study is to identify opportunity for woodland, shrub or hedgerow planting works. A significant site within the areas of interest is the Sankey Canal, one of the earliest canals in the country, which forms the border of the Merton Bank South site. Adjoining that canal at Merton Bank is Parr Corn Mill, potentially of medieval date. (1)
