Description
An archaeological watching brief was undertaken in 1998 during ground disturbance works for development at the Lime Groves site, Shavington. The area measured circa 250m by 110m extending westwards from Crewe Road. The site was monitored for a period of 2 months during the removal of surface deposits and the excavation of trenches. The remains of a stone-lined culvert were observed, along with sub-surface deposits including sandy-silts containing charcoal and ceramic fragments dating to the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. Geologically lain sand was also noted. No other archaeological features were observed. (1)
