Description

Archaeological evaluation at Friars Gate I Barbauld Street, Warrington. The site consisted of one standing building and an associated car park. The development area lay within the medieval precinct and over the site of the Friary church. The evaluation took the form of three trenches within the car park which identified two east-west aligned sandstone walls, a sandstone slab floor and the remains of a disturbed grave cut. There was considerable modern disturbance due to post-medieval development and previous excavations on the site. However, the level of preservation was good.
