Description

Archaeological watching brief undertaken between 28th November to 1st December 1995 at Holford Hall, Plumbley, during ground disturbance works carried out as part of an extension to the hall. Holford Hall is a scheduled monument and the watching brief was carried out as a condition of Scheduled Monument Consent. The north and east walls of the former collapsed/demolished north wing, including the remains of a brick and sandstone chimney breast, were identified and dated to the 17th century. The remains of the north wing were found to be associated with the standing bridge. Also, in advance of construction of the north wing, a platform was established to create a level area with the surrounding ground, its revetment walls required repair. (1)
