Description
An archaeological watching brief was conducted during groundworks associated with the construction of residential properties on land formerly occupied by Church Farm and adjacent to the west side of St Margaret's Parish Church, Wrenbury. Sherds of late Roman pottery were found associated with structural evidence. A probable medieval structure overlay this. Pits datable to the late post medieval period were identified in many of the machine dug trenches. Some of these features appear to have been grave pits for the disposal of dead farm animals; some also contained domestic refuse. Certain features, whose fills produced no fids, were of indeterminate date; they may have been tree bowls.
