Description

Archaeological evaluation (1993) of a field at Southworth Hall Farm, Croft. Within the field a sub-rectangular cropmark enclosure had previously been identified. The programme of work comprised field walking and a series of 69 evaluation trenches, palaeoenvironmental soil sampling was also undertaken. The field walking produced a collection of prehistoric lithic implements and waste material, Roman pottery, Medieval pottery, Post-medieval pottery, clay tobacco pipes and other artefacts. The excavation of the enclosure concluded that it represented a Romano-British farmstead dating to the 2nd century AD. (1)
