Description

Archaeological assessment undertaken for the site of a proposed golf course at Oscroft, near Tarvin, in 1992. This comprised a desk-based study together with field walking. The use of the land as pasture predominates the history of the assessment site. Early 19th century tithe maps confirm that much of the land in the Oscroft area was used in arable farming, also ridge and furrow earthworks are still extant. The only exception to this arable land use is the mention of 'brick field' on a tithe map, suggesting the possible presence of a brick kiln of potential medieval/post-medieval date.
