Description
Site visited to check for traces of Roman road from Chester to Northwich, whose line passes through the approximate area. Foundation trenches dug and nothing visible in these. Hillside also cut back to rear to reveal A section (A on accompanying map). Sand with occasional boulders overlain by varying depths of topsoil. Various irregular cemented layers of clay, gravel and sandstone ? Between topsoil and natural but these appear to be natural and no trace of Roman road detected.
