Description

The excavation of a hole to repair a sewer connection outside 12 Whitefriars in 1972 uncovered four large ashlar blocks, aligned east to west at a depth of approximately 3.5m and laid onto natural sands and clay. Since these appeared at the southern edge of the excavation, it was not possible to arrive at any date for this possible structure. Finds included a few pieces of Roman tile, and bone and pottery.
