Description
Survey undertaken in 1985-6 by C.Williams and R.Mackinder at the site of Stanlow Abbey. The footprint of four buildings were identified, along with a door way, also the subterranean tunnel, thought to form part of the main drain for the site. Levels were established across the site from north to south and comparison to data provided by the Oceanographic Dept., Bidston, of probable tidal heights over the life of the Abbey, indicated that flooding did not occur in the main buildings of the Abbey, which is at odds with the claim of the monks' the the site was subject to continuous flooding.
