Description

What was reported as the remains of a substantial stone wall and a large well, in line with the wall between the rectory garden and the adjacent house in Castle St. was recorded during construction activities between 1833 and 1848 (1). This site was re-excavated between 1976 - 1977 (ECH2823), when the original excavation area was rediscovered, and the well was identified as part of the early stone building phase of the Mansio buildings (2).
