Description
Pemberton's Parlour, 1893: fragment of floor tiling record among the post Roman debris at the Parlour (1). The discovery was reported as being thirty yards west of Pemberton's Parlour, outside the city walls. A tombstone fragment was also found (2).
Grosvenor Museum, 1893: A coin of Trajan (AD 98 - 117) came from the site of the Grosvenor Museum (1) and a lead weight was found during groundworks associated with the construction of an extension in 1893. The weight was inscribed VIII on the side (7). CHER 8030/26. Also found at the museum was a stone spindle whorl with "markings of a curious pattern" engraved on it and a saucer-shaped worked stone were found in 1893 during the construction of an extension (1). Spindle whorl is a polished disc with straight-sided perforation. Incised horse-shoes and dots on one side, dots and incised lines on the other (CHER 6993).
