Description

Foregate Street, 1693: record of an altar dedicated to genii found in a cellar on Foregate St. (1). Eastgate Street, 1693: Record of an altar found on the corner with Newgate Street (2). The object is reported to have been found in the cellar of what was then Mr Heaths premises (3). The altar was found face down on its foundations and surrounded by animal remains such as the ox, wolf and roebuck. Considered to be dedicated to Diocletian and Maximian, i.e. Between 207-209 AD (5)
