Description

On 29 November 1950, workmen employed by the Merseyside and North Wales Electricity Board were relaying a cable on the west side of Castle Esplanade, and found a Saxon coin hoard dating to the tenth century approximately 18 inches below surface level, 29 feet to the south of St Martin's Court (1) (5). It was reported that some of the found coins needed to be recovered from workmen and children (2).
