This list entry was subject to a Minor Amendment on 01/09/2014 SJ4066SW 595-1/3/396 CHESTER CITY (IM), WATERGATE STREET AND ROW (South side), No. 51 Street and No. 59 Row (Formerly listed as No. 53 Street and No.59 Row, WATERGATE STREET AND ROW (South side)) (Formerly Listed as: WATERGATE STREET, No.53 Street & No.59 Row) 28/07/55 GV II Shops and town house now office and possibly flat. Rebuilt early to mid C18. Sandstone, partly rendered, to street and Row, Flemish bond brown brick above. 4 storeys, with gable to front. Modern shopfront and entrance to street. Central Tuscan column to Row, with rail on turned balusters of painted wood; late Georgian shopfront has 4-pane window on base with 2 broad panels; pilasters, frieze and cornice. Small camber-arched opening in right pier to Row. Each upper storey has 2 flush 12-pane sashes under gauged brick arches; those to third storey have projecting keystones formed of 3 large shaped bricks. The brickwork above fourth storey windows is rebuilt. A modern brick extension hides the rear. At time of survey (June 1989) No.59 Row was unoccupied and access could not be gained to the upper storeys. Listing NGR: SJ4038466231
