SJ4066SE 595-1/4/333 CHESTER CITY (IM) PEPPER STREET (South side), Former Methodist New Connexion Chapel (Formerly listed as Habitat Store (that part formerly Methodist New Connexion Chapel)) GV II Chapel, then public hall, and later motor showroom. Part of shop at time of Listing 1834-5. By William Cole. For the Methodist New Connexion. Stucco with grey-green hipped slate roof. 4 Corinthian columns in antis between projecting wings, each having a round-arched window of 20 panes beneath the transom and a radial-bar fanlight above. Entablature with architrave, frieze and dentil cornice; pediment standing proud of panelled attic; hipped roof with ridge at right-angle to front. INTERIOR: any internal features are covered. HISTORICAL NOTE: in 1836 Joseph Hemingway considered this the most handsome chapel in Chester.
