Description

CHESTER CITY (IM) SJ4066NW KING STREET 595-1/1/213 (South side) 10/01/72 No.29 GV II Cottage. C17, altered. Lined render to the first storey; planted mock timber framing to the second and third storeys; brown brick west gable, partly rebuilt; painted brick rear. EXTERIOR: 3 storeys. Replaced recessed door; one recessed 9-pane sash to first and second storeys and a small 12-pane horizontally-sliding sash to the third storey; a raised shield of doubtful significance dated 1773; flush eaves; parapet gable. Added one-storey gabled rear wing. The rear of the main building has a 2-pane casement under a basket relieving arch in the second storey and a mullioned 2-light casement in the third storey; west chimney. INTERIOR: has an open fire with oak beam to the front room and a blocked corner fire to the back room; the rear wing has no features of note. The stair has a 2-storey oak newel with a butted joint, all the steps being winders; a central oak beam from front to back in the first storey and, chamfered, in the second storey; cupboard with oak door in face to the stair of the chimney breast; the third storey has 2 oak purlins to each slope, one in each case being of reused timber and the other scarfed to an oak bracket in the east wall; some flat oak rafters. The floorboards, now carpeted, are stated to be broad and of oak. Listing NGR: SJ4030166576
