Description

CHESTER CITY (IM) SJ4066NW KING STREET 595-1/1/223 (North side) 10/01/72 No.20 GV II Town house. Probably c1830. Brown brick in Flemish bond to front; grey slate roof has ridge parallel with the street. EXTERIOR: 3 storeys, double fronted. Rendered plinth has recessed bootscraper; 2 steps to door, just west of centre, of 5 fielded panels with radial bar fanlight in round-arched doorcase with pilasters and open pediment; 4 windows per storey, all with painted stone sills and wedge lintels with cambered soffits and false keystones of 3 voussoirs; the recessed horned sashes, of 12 panes to first and second storeys and 6 panes to the third storey have exposed sash-boxes; round-arched passage doorway, east, has boarded door and plain fanlight; parapet frieze with fretted pattern and modillion cornice; gable chimneys. The rear, expressed as 2 houses, is rendered with features replaced; the east part has a 2-storey outshut with lean-to roof and further extension comprising a second-storey conservatory on braced posts. The third storey above the outshut has 2 recessed 12-pane sashes, flush verge and a west ridge chimney. The west part has a 6-panel door with a triangular overlight and a nearly flush 16-pane sash to the first storey, an altered tall, thin, small-pane stair window, a 12-pane recessed sash to the second storey, a casement of two 2-pane lights with arched 2-pane fan above to the third storey.
