Undercroft and town house, rebuilt early C19 as undercroft shop, Row shop and accommodation, now shop and storage. Ashlar yellow sandstone with hipped grey slate roof, ridge parallel with front. The shopfront to the street has a round arch to each side of a broader segmental arch, all stop-chamfered; a shaped 1-pane glazed door in the west arch; 1-pane windows in the other arches. The tall Row-opening has ornate panelled cast-iron railing, painted end-piers perhaps of stone with inset wooden panels, sloped boarded stallboard 1.5m from front to back, covered Row walk and modern shopfront of no interest; cornices; ceiling covered. Painted timber entablature over Row opening has lion-heads at corners of frieze and dentils to cornice; the ashlar stonework is exposed to each side of pilastered front, and to the third and fourth storeys. The third storey has 3 altered sashes in recessed architraves; the fourth storey has 3 recessed 12-pane sashes in simple openings with deep sills on cyma corbels; stone cornice and parapet course. Brick lateral chimney, set back west. INTERIOR: 5 steps down to undercroft; masonry in cupboard behind shop-window, east, may indicate medieval party wall. Other surfaces in shop at undercroft and Row levels are covered.
