CHESTER CITY (IM) SJ4065NE CASTLE STREET 595-1/6/95 (South side) 10/01/72 Nos.7 AND 9 GV II Pair of small town houses. Early C18 or earlier. English garden wall bond brown brick with grey slate roof, ridge parallel with the front. 3 storeys, each house of one bay. Flush painted stone plinth has covered cellar opening to No.7 and blocked opening to No.9. Three stone steps to No.7, tiled step to No.9; doors of 6 fielded panels, in simple moulded case to No.7 and eared case with shaped frieze and cornice to No.9; simple overlights. No.7 has flush 12-pane sashes with sills tiled and cambered gauged brick heads; No.9 has replaced horned 4-pane sashes with painted stone sills and cambered gauged brick heads; central cast-iron rainwater pipe and head. The roof has 2 bricked-up dormer gables, set back; a large central ridge chimney. The rear has 2 doors to walled yards, a long stair window of 6 panes to No.7 and 18 panes to No.9, both flush and with cambered brick heads. No.7 has a 6-pane casement to each upper storey and a repaired 4-pane gabled dormer. No.9 has a 4-pane horned sash to second storey, a 2-pane horizontally-sliding sash to third storey and a 6-pane gabled dormer. INTERIORS not inspected. Listing NGR: SJ4058265928
