CHESTER CITY (IM) SJ4066SE BRIDGE STREET AND ROW 595-1/4/61 (East side) 28/07/55 Nos.17 & 19 Street and Nos.21 & 23 Row (Formerly Listed as: BRIDGE STREET No 19 Street & Nos 21 & 23 Row) GV II Undercroft and town house, rebuilt late C18 as undercroft shop, Row shop and accommodation, now undercroft office, Row shop and storage, partly disused. Rendered brick with slate roof at right angle to street. Office front to street has no interest. EXTERIOR: Doric end-piers to Row-front; cast-iron railing to front and returned on stallboard sides has circlets between paired upper rails; stallboard 1.72m from front to back altered and paved in granolithic; Row walk granolithic; shopfront in early C20 manner has recessed small-paned central door under ornamented depressed arch; bolection-moulded panelled stallriser, timber pilasters and a 3-pane window with spiral-moulded arrises; fascia; plaster ceiling. The rendered bressumer above the Row-front sags slightly as if of timber. The third and fourth storeys are rendered; sillband immediately above Row-front cornice; 2 recessed 12-pane third storey sashes; fourth storey sillband; 2 recessed 9-pane sashes; coped shallow front gable; probably a lateral south chimney, not clearly visible. INTERIOR: the front undercroft is wholly lined; the cellar behind reached from the Row shop has probably medieval sandstone sidewalls. The shop is lined.; the storeys above, not inspected, are stated to have a C19 stair against the south wall and a mid to late Victorian rear attic.
