Working men's institute, now boy's club. 1895. By TM Lockwood. For the first Duke of Westminster. Red sandstone ashlar and stone dressed red brick; grey slate roofs. 2 storeys and attic. In the sharp corner between Overleigh Road and Eaton Road. Ornate faces with shaped gables to north, west and east; simpler face to yard, south. The north front facing Handbridge centre has projecting full-height porch, left, and canted stair-bay, right. Ionic and vernacular detailing, much carving, stone mullioned and transomed windows, leaded glazing, ashlar banding and the round-arched lights which Lockwood favoured. INTERIOR has a substantial dogleg stair, some original doors and beamed ceilings, rather heavily detailed.
