Town house and former shop with accommodation, now dwelling. 1829-33, altered. No.53 has panelled door with simple overlight in timber case; flush 16-pane sash to ground floor and first floor. No.55 has shopfront probably c1870 with painted stone plinth, panelled stallriser, door of 2 fielded panels and 2 glazed panels, 1-pane overlight, stop-chamfered pilasters to door and shop window of 4 panes with colonnette mullions, stop-chamfered fascia and cornice on paired end-brackets. A pair of modillion brackets above the shopfront carry a canted oriel of 2;4;2 pane sashes with panelled apron, chamfered mullions, frieze and moulded cornice. The former house adjoining, right, is demolished leaving party wall exposed when inspected in April 1992. INTERIOR not inspected.
