Church: late Perpendicular, some C16 alterations, tower dated 1826. Ashlar red sandstone, Welsh slate roof of parallel ridges. 7-bay nave and chancel in one range, north aisle, 2-stage west tower and south porch. Bays of nave and chancel, divided by buttresses, have broad 3-light windows with 4-centred arched heads with label moulds. 2nd bay has gabled porch with an open timber truss and moulded doorcase with hood mould containing original studded and panelled door with a 4-centred head. Niche above doorcase. 6th bay has similar but simpler priest's door and a window with 2 round-headed lights. 4-light Perpendicular east window and similar treatment of north aisle. Squat tower on plinth has 2 bands and a cornice with a castellated parapet and crocketed finials. 2 lancets with label moulds, the upper louvred. Plaque reads ERECTED 1826, Thos.Gerard, Wm.Gerard, C.Wardens. Round-headed 2-light chamfered mullioned west window with worn inscribed lintel and plaque of 1684 above reading JOHN PARSEFALE AND RICHARD GAMON, WARDENS. Interior: Arcade of six 4-centred double-chamfered arches on octagonal piers to north aisle. Much restored hammerbeam roof to nave and chancel. Wealth of carved woodwork by Rev.Toogood, incumbent 1907-1946, copying style and using some C15 pieces. This includes chancel screen and parclose, to Barnston Chapel in north aisle. Also choir, reredos and box pews. Also good raised pulpit with ornate sounding board and hourglass and adjacent 2-decker reader's desk dated 1722 in north aisle. To rear of nave earlier churchwarden's pew with hood on twisted columns inscribed: Thomas Kelsall, Theophilus Kelsall, Churchwardens Ano Dom 1697. Octagonal stone font and fragments of early glass, one dated 1500, in nave.
