Description

SJ 46 5/43 NW UPTON-BY-CHESTER C.P. UPTON LANE No. 43 (Rose Cottage). 20/3/1974 II House: perhaps C18 but external treatment of early-mid C19. Stuccoed brick, Welsh slate roof, 1 gable and 1 ridge yellow brick chimney 2-storey, symmetrical 3-bay front. Moulded wooden cornice. End bays have depressed 4-centered arched openings with label moulds containing 16-pane sashes below, 12-pane sashes above, with intersecting tracery in the glazed tympanum. Central bay has projecting wooden porch with domed glass roof and doorcase behind with similar head and label mould, containing a pair of glazed doors and a fanlight with tracery. Similar window above and painted inscription, "circa 1745". Roof has added gabled dormer. Listing NGR: SJ4069169406
