Description

SJ 45 SE 8/32 BROXTON C.P. Hunter's Lodge Hotel, (formerly listed as Lower Hall) WHITCHURCH ROAD (East Side) 22/10/1952 II Hotel, formerly Broxton Lower Hall, 1671 restored and altered 1886. Oak frame with plaster panels on sandstone plinth. Alterations and extensions in brick to rear. Grey slate roofs with bargeboards and finials and C19 shaped brick chimneys of type common to Carden Estate buildings, 4 gables to almost symmetrical front of 2½ storeys and 5 windows. The wing gables are lower than the central pair. Small frame (with baluster posts on upper storeys of central portion and chevrons on wings). Recessed central porch has original oak mullioned and transomed window at rear and a C20 door in left side. A 10-light mullioned and transomed window to each side. The second storey has a 3-light mullioned window over porch, with a 10 light window to each side. Each wing has a 12-light mullioned and transomed window to the lower storey and slightly differing windows to upper storey. A 2-light mullioned window in each attic gable. Leaded glazing to upper storey. Victorian carved dates IDF 1671 left and 1886 PLC right. Much of the framing is renewed. Listing NGR: SJ4808654224
