Description

SJ 4161 EATON C.P. ECCLESTON APPROACH (East of) Eaton Park 8/52 Gates, South-east of the Garden House, and gate piers GV II Pair of wrought iron gates with overthrow, c. 1880, for 1st Duke of Westminster, probably by Alfred Waterhouse. Each gate is divided into panels by 3 vertical rails and (in the lower part) 4 horizontal rails, all square in section. Each panel contains circular section iron work, ending in closely involuted curlecues of flattened section, tendrils or wrought leaves or flowers. The decorative overthrow has ironwork similar to the gate panels, but surmounted by wrought iron pineapples in coronals of leaves. Some C13 French motifs. Gate piers of red sandstone with plinths, caps and finials. Listing NGR: SJ4154261066
