Description

BICKLEY C.P. BICKLEY WOOD SJ 54 NW 3/9 Bickley Hall Farmhouse, and attached wing of farm buildings. 1/3/1967 - II Farmhouse C17, altered C18 and C19, north gable rebuilt mid C20. A little oak small framing, but mostly rebuilt in brick; grey slate roofs. A long, narrow west wing of 2 storeys with steep-pitched roof; an L-shaped east wing back-to-back against the south part of the west wing, early C19. Against south-west corner of west wing is the north-east corner of the wing of the farm buildings, C17, with flush sandstone quoins and a 3-light recessed mullioned window, now to the hayloft but formerly groom's quarters. North gable of west wing incorporates an oak tie-beam on which is painted in C19 Gothic lettering "In this house died Robert Cholmondeley, Earl of Leinster, October 2 1650". The west side includes a little oak small framing. Windows to west wing include 2 small-pane iron casements under camber arches and 1 small-pane wood casement. East wing has a 2-storey hipped canted bay window on east gable with 16-pane sashes and other recessed 16-pane sashes. Interior: 2 ovolo oak beams in lower storey of west wing and oak purlins in attic. Doors of 6 fielded panels in east wing. Listing NGR: SJ5259647947
