SJ77NE KING STREET 792-1/2/68 (East side) 18/01/49 Knutsford Lodge Gateway and gates to Tatton Park (Formerly Listed as: KING STREET Knutsford Lodge of Tatton Hall)

Lodge and gates to Tatton Park. 1810. By Lewis Wyatt. Ashlar. Triple gateway with large central arch and smaller flanking arches, each with cast-iron spear-head gates. Central entrance has engaged fluted Doric columns carrying entablature with triglyph frieze, and pediment surmounted by heavy acroteria. Semicircular archway with voussoirs and scrolled keystone. Simpler outer arches. Flanking return walls each side, incorporating lodge to west, ashlar with slate roof. Single-storeyed with doorway facing main driveway, and two 12-pane sash windows in north elevation. Axial stack. Its doorway is matched on the opposite side of the gates by a blind recess. To the north of the entrance gates, the flanking walls each contain blind square-headed recesses, balancing the openings in the lodge. INTERIOR: not inspected.
