Description

KNUTSFORD SJ7478 KING STREET 792-1/3/41 (West side) 15/01/74 Nos.38, 40 AND 42 GV II Row of 3 cottages, one now in commercial use. Early C17, extensively altered, especially c1920. Timber-framed, partially plastered and painted over, with brick in gables and rear elevation. Shingle roof, and some plain tiles to rear. One and a half storeys with 5 inserted or renewed dormer windows in the roof, variable planning: No.38 apparently single-unit, the others 2-unit plans. No.38 has door in lean-to porch against gable wall, and window inserted early C20 with wood mullions and transom, small leaded panes and latticed in upper lights. No.40 has part-glazed and panelled door backing on to stack to right and small 2-light window above it with canopy over. Main window identical with that to No.38. No.42 also has part glazed and panelled door backing on to stack with 3-light latticed windows each side with shallow wood canopies over. Additional doorway inserted in gable wall on conversion to shop premises. INTERIOR: not inspected. Listing NGR: SJ7531578535
