4/111 Cruck barn at Tatton Old Hall (formerly at 5.10.79 Woodlands, Frodsham) (formerly listed as Woodhouses Cruck Frame Barn)

Barn. C16. Timber-framed with brick infill and thatch roof. Undivided hall plan. South East front: Stone base. 20 x 3 cells of small framing with brick infill with breathers of rectangular shape and 4 square holes in cross patterns alternating. Double doors to 7th and 8th bays and single door to 20th bay from right, all C20 incorporated at time of re-erection. Norfolk reed thatch roof with sedge to ridge. North west facade: also of 20 x 3 cells of small framing, single door to 14th bay from right. Plain brick gable end to south west and similar to North East with square pitch hole and door to gable. Interior: 3 base cruck trusses supported on stone footings, each with low cambered ties (a later insertion) a collar and yoke. Spurs above level of tie running from crucks to wall below level of wall plate. Cruck at south western gable end has broken blades at top with inserted angle braces and queen posts. Wind bracing. Framing shows that a half-hip may have existed at the west end. At the time of reconstruction the ground cill and wall plate were replaced with new timber and certain of the timbers to the South East front and the majority of the timber or timbers brought from the demolished barn at Tollemache Farm, Clotton Hoofield.
