SJ 97 NW POTT SHRIGLEY C.P. SHRIGLEY ROAD (West Side) 5/93 Church of St. Christopher 14/4/1967 GV I Church: mainly C15, some later repairs and alterations. Coursed sandstone rubble and stone-slate roof. Nave and aisles of 2 bays, chancel, west tower and small south porch. Angle buttresses and rolled copings, 2 and 3-light windows of various forms, some with hood moulds ending in large stops carved as heads. West tower of 4 stages with deeply set west doorway and 2-light, louvred, bell opening; castellated parapet and pinnacles. Interior: South aisle arcade of octagonal piers, north aisle carried on a cluster of 3 colonnettes. Nave has slightly curved, open, wooden ceiling, carried on braces springing from moulded corbels. All major members are moulded. Chancel roof of open pitch type is otherwise similar. East window has sortie original stained glass restored in 1872. Early C18 baluster font. Box pews throughout nave and aisle brought from Gawsworth in C19. 2 bells by Robert Crowch, c.1430. Tower and south aisle result from will of Geoffrey Downes of 1492. (Pevsner and Hubbard).
