Description

This list entry was subject to a Minor Amendment on 23 September 2021 to remove superfluous amendment details, update the name and address and to reformat the text to current standards. SJ 97 NW 2/156 RAINOW C.P. TOWER HILL (West Side) No 2 Tower Hill Farm (Not Tower Hill) (Formerly listed as Tower Hill and attached farmbuilding) GV II Farmhouse: mid C17 with C19 alterations. Washed, coursed squared buff sandstone rubble. Kerridge stone-slate roof, stone ridge and two stone chimneys. Two and a half storey, three-bay front. End bays have three-light wooden casements under rough stone lintels. Central bay has door behind wooden porch with a two-light and a single light above. To sides and rear are rubble hood moulds. Interior: Major partitions are stone rubble but party walls are timber framed with stone flags as infill. Most doors are C17, five-panelled with reeded rails. Dogleg staircase, with simple handrail, square newels and no balusters. Some wide boarding used as panelling and original roof structure. Attached farm buildings: partly C17 and a shippon dated 1743. Materials as farmhouse. Z-shaped plan of former cottage now garage and two shippons. Rectangular openings have wooden or rough stone lintels. Listing NGR: SJ9478875822
