Description

SJ 87 NE 5/85 MOTTRAM ST.ANDREW C.P. SMITHY LANE (North Side) Keeper's Close II Formerly farmhouse, later gamekeeper's house, now a house: early C17 with C18 and later C20 alterations and additions. English garden wall bond red brick on sandstone plinth. Kerridge stone-slate roof, stone ridge and 1 ridge and 1 gable brick chimney. Rectangular plan. 2-storey, 4 bay front. End bays under gables have 3-light casements with applied lead glazing and 3-light stone mullion windows above partly with original leaded glazing. Door to left of centre behind added gabled brick porch with a 2-light stone mullion window above. To right are similar 3-light casement and 3-light stone mullioned windows. Small C20 addition in keeping. Has a standard plan of late C16/early C17 Mottram estate farms (see Higher Farmhouse (q.v.)) and may have had timber-framed origins. Listing NGR: SJ8818378686
