Description

MORETON CUM ALCUMLOW C.P. NEW ROAD SJ 85 NW 7/41 East Lodge GV II Gate lodge to Great Moreton Hall. Dated 1858. Coursed sandstone rubble with ashlar dressings and a plain tile roof. Two storeys with single storey wings. Drive front: central semi-octagonal bay window having a projecting plinth with moulded top. Continuous band at the level of the sills of the ground floor windows which are of 2 casement lights to each face and have Tudor hood moulds. Above these is a string-course dividing the ground from the first floor which has single-light casement windows to each side with a gablet above each face with decorated bargeboards. To the apex of the central gable is an ashlar shield bearing the Ackers' arms and the date. To either side of this are single storey wings with a single-light window to the centre and a verandah with wooden posts of circular section supporting hipped roofs. Two-flue chimney stack to centre of the ridge and single-flue stacks at either side of this, all having richly moulded Tudor flues of terra-cotta. The rear has a projecting C20 outshut to the ground floor and a single-light window to the centre of the first floor. Listing NGR: SJ8450759633
