Description

NEWBOLD ASTBURY C.P. WATERY LANE SJ 86 SW 4/68 Brook Farmhouse - II Farmhouse. Early C17. Timber framed with rendered infill and plain tile roof (probably originally thatched). Two storeys. The entrance front has a stone plinth common to the whole building. Projecting wing at right with close studding to both floors and corner posts with decorative jowling to the tops of the walls. Two 3-light C19 casement windows to the ground floor and two to the first floor. The gable has decorative chevron strutting to the sides and a central post above which is a queen-post truss. To the left of this is a range with close studding to both floors. To the ground floor right is an C18 or early C19 door with 6 panels, the lower two flush and the upper 4 raised and fielded, in a moulded surround with C19 gabled porch before. To left of this are two 4-light casement windows and to the first floor one gabled window with a king post and chevron strutting to the gable, now containing a 3-light C20 casement window but originally probably of 5 lights. The sides and rear are pebble-dashed and the rear has an outshut at left and a projecting C17 wing to right. Interior: Chamfered ceiling beams to the ground floor rooms and timber framing to internal walls. One C17 stair well with small-framed walls and rectangular newel posts with retangular knops.
