Description

SWETTENHAM C.P. SWETTENHAM ROAD SJ 86 NW 5/47 Farm buildings east of Swettenham Hall GV II Range of farm buildings consisting of a dovecote, mid C18, flanked south by stable wing 1678 (door head tablet) and west by an "L" shaped stable wing 1696 (door head tablet). The group still has a stud use but also contains a cottage and offices. Red brick dovecote, brown brick stables, stone slate roof, some sections now replaced by Welsh slates. 2 storeys, with dovecote half a storey higher, 5 bays. 5 truss bays and 5 bays. The north-west section has a stone plinth, 3-and-4-light stone mullion windows and a boarded and studded door in a stone surround with bead-moulded edge. A stone tablet above the door has the initials S TF and the date, this is surmounted by a coat of arms in a plastered recess under a moulded projecting cornice. There are rusticated quoins and projecting ogee cornice. The north gable has tumbling-in brickwork below coping, also moulded kneelers and finials to kneelers and apex. The south wing a four-course-deep toothed-band and the initials S-TM with the date over a door. The dovecote, in Flemish bond, has a stone pyramid roof with weather vane, a loft level door and clock set into keyed oculus. The west section has two wide carriage opening with ellipitical arches almost at eaves level. Interior: The west section is least altered and has strutted trusses, original purlins, ridge tree, wind braces and rafters. Listing NGR: SJ8101166531
