Description
NORBURY C.P. GAUNTONS BANK SJ 54 NE 2/76 Brook Farmhouse
- II Farmhouse. Later C16/early C17 with C19 addition. Timber framed with brick infill and plain tile roof. Two storeys. Baffle-entry plan. Entrance front: 4 bays, the two at right of earlier date than those to left but all refaced in the Cl9. The right hand two bays have a central C20 doorway with gabled porch above and to either side are 3-light casement windows with cambered heads which are now blocked to form flat lintels. Two 3-light casement windows to the first floor. To left at ground floor level are two 2-light windows with cambered heads which are now blocked to create flat lintels and two 2-light casements also to first floor. Chimney stack to left of centre of ridge. The right hand gable end has a central chimney stack of brick with offsets and two vestigial horizontal beams to the lower walling. Truss to gable has cambered tie beam and vertical struts above. Rear: to left is brick walling of the later addition with a C20 lean-to single-storey outshut to the lower wall. At left of this is a jowelled corner post indicating the original termination of the building. To left of this are 8 x 2 cells of small framing apparently of late C16 date the framing originally extending lower but replaced by brickwork. To the far left are 3 further cells of uneven small framing which appears to be of a late C17 or early C18 date, replacing earlier framing. Interior: Chamfered ceiling beams to the kitchen, one of which appears to have been brought from elsewhere. Chamfered ceiling beams and ingle-nook fireplace to the parlour,with chamfered bressumer. To the first floor are two trusses with cambered tie beams supporting a series of vertical posts.
