Description

HATHERTON C.P. PARK LANE SJ 64 NE 4/34 Park House - II Farmhouse. C17 with early C19 additions. Plum coloured random bond brick to the C17 portion and orange-red Flemish bond brick to the C19 portion which has ashlar dressings. Plain tile roof. Two storeys. Entrance front: of C19 date. Three bays symmetrically disposed. Slightly projecting ashlar plinth, ashlar band between the ground and first floors and with an ashlar cornice to the top of the wall. The central bay projects slightly and has a Tuscan flat roofed porch with two columns to the front and two ½-column responds behind. The door has two lower flush panels and two upper raised and fielded panels with a 4-light overlight. To either side are sash windows of 4 x 4 panes with ashlar sills and flat-arched heads and there are 3 similar windows to the first floor. The cornice to the top of the wall is of cyma outline as is the surround to the central pediment. To either side are gable chimney stacks. The right hand side has ashlar coping and left hand kneeler to the early C19 gable end at left which is without windows. The C17 gable end at right of this and slightly recessed has a window of 3 x 2 sash panes to the ground floor left and a C19 canted bay window at right with a cambered relieving arch over and a lead roof. The first floor has two 2-light casement windows that at right with a cambered head and both with C20 tile sills. The second floor has a single-light window at left and a 2-light window at right, with a cambered head. To the right of this is a recessed brick addition of the 1940s. The left hand side is similar, save that the ground floor ofthe Cl7 portion is replaced by an outshut of the 1940s. Interior: The C17 portion has chamfered ceiling beams to both floors with stepped stops. The C19 portion has raised and fielded dado panelling to both front rooms at ground floor level and a staircase of 3 flights with square panelled newel posts, turned balusters and a moulded handrail.
