Cottage, 1831 (stone tablet at first floor level) which contains a probablymid C18 Bridewell. Red brick with roof of large slates. 2 storeys, 3 bays, windows mainly 2-light flush casements with stone sills and cambered arches, at ground floor. Modern fully glazed front door in old frame which has transome light with glazing bars. There is a monopitch porch added externally. Gable end stacks. Interior: The bridewell forms the entrance hall of the cottage. It is sandstone and measures 4 metres x 2 metres, has an opening in the south wall with two vertical iron rods, a rebated door opening with hinge blocks and lock-keep and holes in the side walls which supported the bed or seat beam. The cottage is listed for the interest of this almost complete lock-up.
