Description

SJ 75 SE BARTHOMLEY C.P. SMITHY LANE 6/15 Churchfield Farmhouse II* Farmhouse, early C17 with early C19 alterations, now dwelling. Red brick with tile roof. 2 storeys, 3 bays, gabled. Originally "L" plan but later rear wing added. Projecting front porch with stilted cambered lintel with label, and pitched roof with coping and kneelers. The porch contains a four panel door, with gothic tops to upper panels, in an ovolo moulded dowelled frame. Three-light casements with glazing bars, those at ground floor and first floor in gable with labels. Interior: Four deeply bevelled beams framed together to form a ceiling of nine panels. Inglenook. Ovolo moulded and bevelled beams. Timber framing showing in internal walls. Jointed cruck and queen post trusses. Ledged and battened and six panel doors. East of the farmhouse there is a barn (not listable) with C17 collar and strutted trusses. This supports the date of the farmhouse. Listing NGR: SJ7638652675
