Description
SJ 68 NE LYMM C.P. THE AVENUE
2/27 Bridge over brook and dell at head of Lymm Dam
II
Bridge 1918-19, built by Fairclough Brothers for W.H.Lever and C.G.Dewhurst, of reinforced concrete. 3 arched ribs carry the road deck on vertical struts of square section. Quadrant abutments have banded rustication. Parapets have moulded plinths and parapets, each with 6 open panels over the span and 2 over each abutment containing moulded balusters which show, where damaged, a central rod of iron or steel. An early example of an open arched-rib reinforced concrete structure, the bridge marks a largely unexecuted scheme by the proprietors for residential development of land overlooking Lymm Dam.
