SJ 59 SE BURTONWOOD C.P. ALDER LANE 1/1 Causeway Bridges Farmhouse 9/8/1966 II Farmhouse, stated to date from 1646, largely rewindowed C19 and altered and extended at various periods. Brown brick with grey slate roofs; irregular English garden wall bond. The front has central portion of 2 storeys and 3 windows. To left a projecting 2-storey sandstone-plinthed cross-wing has 2 windows to lower storey with 1 window above. Late C19 timber open porch under lean-to roof is in central portion near junction with left wing. All windows to front are 4-pane late C19 inserted sashes. 3 brick chimneys. Flush cross-wing to right contains mid C17 features in right end and rear: recessed 2-course dogtooth string at 2nd floor; brick labels to blocked window-opening to lower storey and to inserted late C19 sash to middle storey in right end; above a single-storey C19 leanto brick extension at rear are 2 brick labels to 2nd storey (one window opening blocked, the other altered to take 8-pane horizontal-sliding sash under camber-head) and a brick label to blocked opening to 3rd (attic) storey surmounted by brick landing-platform to former pigeon-loft. Interior. A few chamfered oak beams. Good oak newel dogleg stair (painted) to 2nd storey, with 3 turned balusters per step. Listing NGR: SJ5873192130
